Streak for the Cash Blog

Welcome to the Streak Blog! Every day we'll communicate a number of items here including advice (with odds) for helping you pick matchups, game-related news & updates and we'll take a look at who's streaking on the leaderboards.

Friday- August 8

2:52 PM ET: Viva La Sevilla!!!
The majority of Streakers are struggling big time lately. Sevilla and Inter Milan tied 0-0 with Sevilla dominating most of the game with some great chances to score but could not covert. But, when you pick them to win or draw and they get the tie, you can't complain. Congrats to the other 11 Streakers who picked this correct, including our pesky intern here at Streak headquarters, and no he is not Steve from the SportsCenter commercials.

Today's Preview: Since Kenny Perry has left the PGA Championship a new golf prop has been added for the morning slot featuring Vijay Singh (+6) vs. David Toms (+2). Vijay had a tough first round but played very well last week which should carry over, but we will see if that holds true. The Italian soccer powerhouse, Inter Milan takes on Sevilla FC of Spain in the first round of the four-team Amsterdam Tournament at 11:00 a.m. Inter Milan is slightly favored with the draw given to Sevilla, but so far Streakers don't seem too worried about that. Red hot Ryan Ludwick teams up with slumping Troy Glaus to take on Ted Lilly in a total bases vs. strikeouts matchup at 2:20 p.m. Lilly is usually good for 5 or 6 K's but that number won't be beat unless Ludwick stays hot and Glaus manages to get a hit or two. Lastly, don't forget to catch the Little League Southeast regional final on ESPN at 8:00 p.m. Best Bets: Toms, Cubs, Red Sox and Dodgers.

Yesterday's Notes: Our previous leader who had 11 has gone down and he has the Atlanta Braves to thank for ruining his streak as they defeated the Diamondbacks. 95% of Streakers who took this matchup went with Arizona and went down as well, ouch. Overall, another poor performance as the overall win PCT was 31.6%. With exactly ONE week to go, can someone hit 15 and win the $4,500 grand prize? Anyone? 15 is harder then it looks eh, Streakers?

Thursday- August 7

10:33 PM ET: Kenny Perry Withdrawls, Nationals Come Out On Top
Kenny Perry has withdrawn from the PGA Championship due to an apparent eye injury involving his contact lens. Yes, strange but true according to ESPN.com. Perry shot a 9-over 79 in his first round and will probably be out for just this weekend, therefore his matchup against Justin Rose will be taken off the board. Also, only 3 Streakers picked the Nationals in our afternoon prop against the Rockies to receive the win. Looks like our leader is still waiting for a matchup to catch his eye which is wrestling up some fellow Streakers feathers on the message board.

3:07 PM ET: Wright Hits Walk-Off, Gives Santana Streak Win
David Wright just gave the Mets the win after a two-out walk-off home run. The Mets win gives Santana the win in our streak matchup 7-6. Just when Schoeneweis looked to have given the Padres a second life by giving up a eighth inning home-run to Jody Gerut...who? Wright saves the day and the 33% of Streakers who took Santana. Another instant Steak classic!

11:46 AM ET: Sergio Comes Through, Phillies Off The Board
Sergio Garcia shot an even par on his first 9 holes to beat Anthony Kim who shot a 2-over, 37. Also, at Streak headquarters we had to take down the Phillies - Marlins matchup because of the overwhelming odds favoring Philly -220. To clarify, if a specific matchup is over -185 we will most likely take it off the board since there should be no "gimmies" in this game but we will do our best not to take the matchup off the board on the same day to avoid any confusion. Oh yeah, in case you have not heard, Brett Favre is a New York Jet. J-E-T-S...alright that's enough.

Today's Preview: A possible Ryder Cup preview starts us off in the morning with Sergio Garcia taking on Anthony Kim as they tee off at 8:25 a.m. Just a reminder, that most golf matchups will now be 9 holes due to the time length of previous full round matchups. These have been altered to give you Streakers more opportunities to pick throughout the day. Another strikeouts vs. total hits matchup will keep us entertained during the early afternoon hours as Johan Santana takes on the San Diego Padres hitters at 12:05 p.m.. The Padres did have 11 hits in the first of three games last night but don't expect these Padres to get 10 hits off Santana. A rare team vs. team prop is at 3:05 p.m. between the Nationals and Rockies, who are at Coors Field so expect some high numbers here. Some MLB Lines: Cardinals -145, Yankees -153, White Sox -140 DBacks -155, and Mariners -128. Best Bets: Anthony Kim, Rockies and DBacks.

Yesterday's Notes: Streakers have been in a little bit of a slump lately and with yesterdays overall win PCT tallying up at 50.8%, this could be a sign for things to come. The biggest streak breaker was obviously the women's soccer upset with Norway taking down the U.S. Only 4 Streakers including myself chose Norway, nice work fellow risk takers! The biggest winner of the day was the San Francisco Giants and the 94.5% of users who picked them to beat the Atlanta Braves. At the end of the night, our leader still sits at 11.

Wednesday- August 6

5:51 PM ET: Leader Up To 11, Kazmir Struggles, and Carlos Lee Goes Yard
Thanks to Scott Kazmir's mediocre performance on the hill today, our leader, 76bluestingray has tied the highest streak of the game at 11. Only 4 more to win the cash prize, can he hang on? Will the pressure get to him like our last leader? Stay tuned to find out. Speaking of #19, Kazmir only lasted 4 1/3 innings giving up 5 runs and 3 walks while only striking out 4. In his past 9 starts he has only made it past the sixth innings in 2 of them. Also, Carlos Lee took care of our afternoon prop by himself hitting a 3-run homer in the 3rd inning. Few more matchups to pick tonight so get to it!

11:48 AM ET: Mexican Primera División Time Mix-up
Our source for the start time between Cruz Azul and San Luis had a bit of a mix-up and the game is actually at 9:30 p.m. ET tonight. Unfortunately, it is not on t.v. but you can stay updated on the gamecast provided by ESPN Soccernet or on flashscore.com. Both teams are 1-0-1 (W-L-D) and look to stay undefeated. If you picked this matchup originally scheduled at 11:00 a.m. the good news is, your pick is unlocked, and there is now a late game to select. Bad news is, if you lose your next pick because of the time mistake, your streak is still over. Feel free to express your anger to me here.

9:47 AM ET: U.S. Women and a 11-Game Streak Go Down!
Hope Solo and the U.S. Women's soccer team were just upset by Norway 2-0. 99.1% of streakers playing this matchup took the crushing defeat, including our now previous leader who reached 11. Our new leader sits at 10 but has not made a pick since Sunday. 76bluestingray must be looking for his perfect matchup.

Today's Preview: Wednesday kicks off at 7:45 a.m. with the Beijing Summer Olympics women's soccer group play featuring the gold medal favorite USA taking on Norway. Norway gets the draw in our matchup but don't expect it to be a cakewalk win for the U.S. as this Norway squad is predicted to finish as a close second in group G. At 12:40 p.m. Scott Kazmir's strikeouts goes up against the Cleveland Indians walks + runs scored. Kazmir only recorded 5 strikeouts and walked 6 in his previous start. Could this have been a fluke start or a beginning to a slow decline? Your call, streakers! Lance Berkman, who sat out last night's game against the Cubs is supposed to be in action tonight, teaming up with Carlos Lee to take on the two-headed Cub monster: Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez in a hits vs. hits matchup. Don't forget on ESPN2 at 7:00 Thierry Henry leads FC Barcelona to New York to take on the Red Bulls. Barcelona is a heavy favorite therefore we put Henry and Euro 2008 MVP, Xavi against the whole Red Bull squad in a most goals prop. Also, Wednesday Night Baseball features AL MVP contenders Alex Rodriguez and Josh Hamilton battling it out for most bases in our last prop of the night. Lastly, some MLB lines: Giants -180, Phillies -150, Yankees -125, and Cardinals -105. Best Bets: US Women, Indians walks + runs, Giants, and A-Rod.

Yesterday's Notes: Not a good day overall for streakers with a overall win PCT of 47.4%. The major streak breakers were the Yankees and Phillies going down. So much for 10-0 vs. the Marlins, Jaime Moyer! Our leader is only 4 wins away from $4,500 after the White Sox score 4 runs in their last at-bat to win in the 14th inning. Can grier98 hang on?

Tuesday- August 5

11:37 PM ET: Another Instant Steak Classic!
The New England Revolution defeated the Houston Dynamo to win the North American SuperLiga, on penalty kicks. Tied at 2-2 after the 120th minute, the Revs won 6-5 on penalty kicks thanks to a diving Matt Reis save. Who says soccer isn't entertaining in America?!

10:09 AM ET: Bogut sits out against U.S. because of a sore right ankle
Andrew Bogut, Australia's leading scorer sat out today's game to rest his sore right ankle. Due to the late notice of the injury, Bosh and Howard are awarded the victory in our matchup. Enjoy the freebie folks. Other notes for the day: Jaime Moyer (PHI) is 10-0 in his career against the Florida Marlins and Gavin Floyd (CHW) is 3-0 in his 7 career starts against the Detroit Tigers.

Today's Preview: Tuesday starts off with what looks like a major mismatch on paper with Andrew Bogut of the Australian national team going up against both centers of the U.S. team, Dwight Howard and Chris Bosh, in the final tune-up game before group play begins. Bogut averaged 14.8 points in the 2004 Olympics, and 12.8 in the 2006 FIBA championship, while Bosh and Howard combined for only 8 points in their last tune-up game against Russia. Our Champions League qualifying matchups give both home teams the draw as they try to come back and stay alive in the tournament. Speaking of soccer, the North American SuperLiga championship takes place tonight with two MLS squads going for the title, with the Revolution playing on their home pitch. A few MLB games round out the night with the Yankees, White Sox and Braves all favored.

Yesterday's Notes: Another day, another streak of 10 goes down. We've now had 5 streakers get to 10 and all failed trying to reach 11. Our solo current leader at 10 did not make a pick yesterday. A dismal overall winning PCT of 30.8 in the books for Monday. The Minnesota Twins gave up 10 runs in the 7th inning en route to the biggest loser award, followed closely by the Boston Red Sox. Roy Halladay checks in as the biggest winner, out dueling the entire A's staff by 1 strikeout.

Monday- August 4

10:39 PM ET: Joba hurt, Thunderstorms in Chicago, Giambi shaves...Oh My!!!
The Yankee savior is hurt! Joba Chamberlain left the game tonight in the fifth inning with what appears to be a right shoulder injury. He gave up five runs including eight hits and two walks. But Joba only gave 12% of users the loss. Other than Mussina isn't Joba the Yanks best starter right now? So much for that surge every August Yankee fans.

Also, The Astros-Cubs game is delayed due to wicked thunderstorms and it looks like we could be heading for a postponed matchup. If this does happen those who picked the Astros vs. Soriano prop will be unlocked so you all can pick another game, starting tomorrow in the a.m. Oh and I can't forget this: Giambi shaved the 'stach! Baseball is going to miss that thing. What a hit that facial hair was.

Today's Preview: Not a whole lot to choose from today but we always seem to find a soccer game to throw into the mix. We use the French Ligue 2 for the first time as Montpellier is the underdog on the road against Strasbourg. The rest of the today features a variety of MLB games and props. Most notably, the Houston Astros runs against Alfonso Soriano total bases + runs, featured on ESPN Monday Night Baseball. Some notes: Halladay had 8 strikeouts in 8 innings in his last start, the Rays are -130 versus the Indians, the Red Sox are -115 against the Royals, the Twins are -130 versus Seattle and San Fran is -125 at home against the Braves. There is potential for a 3-win day. Best Bets: Soriano, Twins and Giants.

Yesterday's Notes: A solid day for streakers today with an overall winning PCT of 64.7%. Pat Burrell and Chase Utley were your big winners of the day, while the heavily favored Angels were taken down by the Yankees as the biggest streak breaker. Our two leaders only picked once today and both won, therefore they both sit on top of the leaderboard with 10. It will be interesting to see how long they last.

Sunday- August 3

Today's Preview: Our soccer matchup today features the Grasshoppers making their streak debut this morning in Vaduz as the favorites to win on the road. What looks like a pitching mismatch takes center stage in the Bronx at 1:05 p.m. between the Angels and the Yankees. John Lackey comes into the game on fire, winning his last 3 starts including his two-hit performance against the Red Sox last week, while Darrell Rasner has struggled on the mound since June. In Pocono, Nascar hopes their tires perform better then last week while we hope to have a close matchup between Jimmy Johnson and Kasey Kahne for the best final pole position. Both are listed at 11/2 odds, but Streakers overwhelmingly seem to like Johnson here, so far. The final pairing of the Bridgestone Invitational of Lee Westwood and Vijay Singh tee off at 2:10 both notched at -8, going into their final round. Also, Big Brown makes his race track comeback tonight at 6:00 at Monmouth Park and our first taste of football takes place tonight at 8:00 with the Peyton Manning-less Colts versus the Washington Redskins in the Hall of Fame game. Best Bets: Angels, Rays, Utley and Burrell.

Yesterday's Notes: A mediocre day of streaking with an average of 56.3% correct picks. We saw two leaders with 10 wins get knocked off the STREAK leaderboard, one by FC Dynamo who tied FC Khimki and the other was the loss in strikeouts by Johan Santana. Not by coincidence, those two matchups were the top Streak breakers of the day. The biggest winner was Carl Edwards after a long, wet day at Montreal. Jacques Villeneuve had the matchups locked up until one of the final laps where he slammed into another car and destroyed his front bumper. A few leaders sit at 9 and have a chance to make it a 4-win day today.

Saturday- August 2

Today's Preview: Welcome to the weekend, streakers! Things start to get interesting at 1:05 p.m. with a pitcher prop featuring Paul Maholm of the 'fire sale' Pirates against Ted Lilly of the Cubs. On the road this year, Maholm is giving up an average of 6.7 hits per game while Lilly gives up only 5.4 hits per game at Wrigley. The Nationwide Series is in Montreal today where Jacques Villeneuve is looking to make a statement on his home track. We put him up against the always consistent Carl Edwards. At 3:55, Junior Griffey is in the middle of his first series in a White Sox uniform, so we had to get him some action on our board. We put him up against Kyle Davies in a total bases vs. strikeouts matchup. Davies only has a total of 30 strikeouts in his 11 starts this season, therefore Griffey looks like a good pick here. Two of the best fireballers in baseball take the hill in Houston at 7:05 with Johan Santana squaring off against Roy Oswalt in a strikeout battle. Before you head out to the clubs, make sure you check out our last matchup of the day with two MLS squads kicking it on the pitch. The Columbus Crew gets the draw even though they have a better record then the Houston Dynamo. But, Vegas is loving Houston at home, and we plays odds over records here at Streak headquarters. Best Bets: Lilly, Edwards, Santana, and Dynamo.

Yesterday's Notes: Another solid day of streaking with the overall winning PCT at 70.9%. We have our first 10-game streaker since July 24th, and today could big a big day for our leaders at the top as they inch closer to the magic number of 15. Big winners of the day were the Giants, Rays and Jimmy Walker, who took down Ms.Wie as she failed to make the cut in Reno. Also, Soriano and Lithuania disappointed a good amount of streakers whom both had over 80% of users taking them over their opponents.

Friday- August 1

Today's Preview: Once again the U.S. Men's basketball team kicks our day off with Dwyane Wade taking on Lithuania's leading scorer, whoever that may turn out to be at games end. Around noon, the Feyenoord Jubilee Tournament kicks off with Tottenham Hotspur favored against the popular Irish squad, Celtic FC. The second game is scheduled to start at 2:45 with the host team, Feyenoord Rotterdam taking on the heavy underdogs, Borussia Dortmund of Germany. Two of the best teams in the AL battle it out in the Bronx with the Angels taking on the Yankees, with Ervin Santana taking the hill for the Halos and Sidney Ponson for the Yanks. Santana is struggling a little bit, going 0-2 in his last two starts, while Ponson is 4-1 since joining New York. Tonight's prop features injury-prone Pedro Martinez against... well, Pedro Martinez. The Mets plan on using Petey for around 80 pitches but he may not even make it to that point if the Astros have anything to say about it, so we set the over under at 70. All these options leave open the potential for a 5-win day, good luck. Best Bets: Lithuania, Feyenoord Rotterdam, and Tampa Bay.

Yesterday's Notes: Final overall winning PCT for the day checks in at a solid 68.8% with several 4-win days recorded. Most picked winner award split between Nick Flanagan and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Detroit Tigers in the books as the day's most picked loser. New current leader's at streak of 8.

Instant Streak Classic: Birdie drops Wie

RENO, NV - Nick Flanagan sank a 37-foot birdie putt on the last hole to better Michelle Wie by one stroke. 96.1% of the picks went against Wie, who played surprisingly well making the turn at level par.

Event: PGA Tour: Reno-Tahoe Open
Prop: Lower score after 9 holes
Final score: Nick Flanagan 35 (1-under) d. Michelle Wie 36 (Even)

Thursday- July 31, 2008

Today's Preview: Today looks like it could be a big day for some streakers with 13 matchups to choose from, with a possibility for a 4-win day. There are two props to choose from as you start your work day; at 8:00 a.m. on ESPN2, the U.S. Men's Olympic team faces off against Turkey in another tune-up before the Olympic Games begin on August 8th. If basketball doesn't intrigue you, choose Retief Goosen or British Open champion Padraig Harrington depending on who you think will record the most birdies. At noon, the Detroit Tigers take on the Cleveland Indians in their series finale, you can either take the game straight up or decide who will record the most total bases, Magglio Ordonez (4-for-16 this series) or Grady Sizemore (5-for-13 this series). On ESPN, the U.S. Senior Open gets under-way at 1:00 p.m. and our matchup features projected tournament winner, Bernhard Langer vs. Fred Funk, whom both tee off at 2:00 but on different holes. Michelle Wie also tees off today, against the men in Reno. Her tee time at 4:55 p.m. and she is matched up against Nick Flanagan. Also, a few major league baseball matchups in the evening with LAA @ NYY, CWS @ MIN, and ARI @ LAD. Best Bets: Kobe, Sizemore, Langer, Flanagan and Webb K's.

Yesterday's Notes: Late-night LA Dodgers win moved the day's overall win% north of .500 with final tally of 59.8%. Oakland A's check in as the day's most selected loser. Sparta Prague scored late to be the afternoon's most selected winner the Dodgers the evening's big winner. Current leader alone on top of the STREAK leaderboard with 8 wins in a row... more than half way there! Two entries tied atop the MOST WINS leaderboard with 32 total.

Wednesday- July 30, 2008

Today's Preview: Once again, the Russian Premier League kicks the day off with Saturn Moscow receiving the draw. In the last Russian league matchup posted, 68% of users picked the game incorrectly; make sure you do your research! At 1:00 p.m. one of the top club teams in the Czech Republic, Sparta Prague, is the heavy favorite as they are considered the top team in the Czech Republic. A rare afternoon game on the west coast finds its way into the Streak with the Royals putting their 3 game win streak on the line against the A's in Oakland. Wednesday Night Baseball on ESPN provides two matchups for streakers, with the Cubs looking to sweep the Brewers as well as a prop featuring Ryan Dempster's earned run total against Corey Hart's total bases. In his two starts this year versus the Brewers, the Cubs pitcher is 2-0, and has a combined 4 earned runs while Hart is 0-for-6 lifetime against Dempster. Best Bets: Sparta Prague, Athletics, Indians, and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Yesterday's Notes: Yet another tough day streaking with the overall winning PCT checking in at a sub-par 45.5%. The day's most selected loser award goes to the Toronto Blue Jays, while the Arizona Diamondbacks were the most selected winning pick. Leaderboard still stuck with a streak of 7.

Tuesday- July 29, 2008

Today's Preview: Lots of matchups over different time slots that could end up as a 4-win day. The day marks the start of the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round. We selected two matchups kicking off in the morning with Partizan Belgrad of Serbia favored by a good amount over Inter Buku, a squad from yes, you guessed it Azerbaijan. In the afternoon matchup the Irish team Drogheda makes its streak debut and receives the draw vs. favored Dynamo Kiev from Ukraine. The ATP Tennis tournament in Cincinnati offers two early round matches between mostly even opponents. A few projected tight games are provided in the evening section along with a couple interesting props. Jays ace Roy Halladay took the loss in his last outing against the Rays with only six strikeouts. We have him matched up against the entire Rays pitching staff for most Ks. Also, Ryan Braun takes on Derrek Lee for most total bases. Braun is 4-for-12 with one HR in his career vs. Big Z, while Lee is 16-for46 with 6 HRs vs. Ben Sheets. Best bets: Janko Tipsarevic, Dynamo Kiev, Toronto Blue Jays, San Diego Padres.

Yesterday's Notes: Another day of streak carnage, with the overall winning PCT checking in at an all-time worst 20.9%. All three of the most selected MLB games went the other way, headlined by the night's bigger loser - the Milwaukee Brewers. And include the Red Sox, Rays and A's losses and the leaderboard cleared out with the current leaders with a streak of 7.

Monday- July 28, 2008

Today's Preview: Limited action on the board today with the only afternoon matchup taking place in Denmark between AC Horsens and AGF Aarhus (Danish Super League). Aarhus is listed as the underdog so we're giving them the draw side even though they're playing on their home ground. The evening features another game on ESPN TV at Fenway where Jered Weaver starts vs. Dice-K. Also in play is the first game of the important Cubs - Brewers series in Milwaukee for the NL Central lead. Unless one of the 7PM games ends in under 3 hours it looks like only two wins will be possible. Good luck! Best bets: AGF Aarhus, Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers.

Yesterday's Notes: Solid overall winning PCT of 73.6% by aggregate picks. Biggest winners New York Mets, our gimme of the day Dinara Safina and the Boston Red Sox. Two-way tie atop the leaderboard with a streak of 9.

Sunday- July 27, 2008

Today's Preview: The day starts off in Switzerland between two undefeated soccer clubs. FC Zurich is the straight up favorite so we're giving the draw to FC Aarau who are playing on their home pitch. At the rain soaked Canadian Open you can play the choice between Anthony Kim and The Field for winning the tournament. We like Kim's game but have to recommend going with the field here. Back on American soil for the rest of the day two big ESPN/ABC TV events are on the board with an Allstate 400 prop and the Arena Bowl XXII champ. A few analysts here at ESPN have Jeff Gordon winning at the Brickyard and Bon Jovi's Philadelphia Soul are listed as 3.5 point favorites so we'll side with the experts. Sunday Night Baseball features the straight up winner and a pair of props to increase your viewing interest. Best bets: The Field, NY Mets, Philadelphia Soul and Red Sox (no sweep!).

Yesterday's Notes: The afternoon featured a classic PUSH in Wrigley Field. Rich Harden was pulled in the 5th inning (after only 87 total pitches) yet posted an impressive total of 10 Ks which looked good enough for the win. But the game went into extra innings the Marlins staff recorded their 10th K on the last pitch of the game. Biggest losers of the day go to the Red Sox and Tigers. And while Josh Hamilton hit a HR he still lost his prop vs Duchscherer who gave up 8 earned runs. No movement on top the leaderboard with our current leader with a streak of 7 taking the day off.

Saturday- July 26, 2008

Today's Update: Rain took the Rogers Cup semifinal tennis match between Simon and Kiefer off the board at 3:20 PM ET. Entries who had that matchup selected were given a PUSH.

Today's Preview: Saturday begins with the UEFA Under-19 championship game where Germany is the slight favorite. At 1:00 PM ET Rich Harden goes against the entire Marlins staff in a battle of most strikeouts. Harden has had 10 Ks in both his starts since joining the Cubs. More props continue throughout the afternoon, where Phillies' ace Cole Hamels tries to strike out more Braves then the game's total runs. The current O/U is at 8.5 and Hamels has struck out 7 or 8 in his last 5 starts so roll the dice here. In the late afternoon, Josh Hamilton tries to break out of his post All-Star slump against the AL's ERA leader Justin Duchscherer. Tonight is the time to finally go against the first-place Mets as they send out Brandon Knight for his first career start at home vs. the Cards. And the late-night chaser features two of the games best pitchers squaring off in San Francisco - Webb vs. Lincecum. Vegas favors: @BOS -113, @DET -146, @NYM -127, DBacks -115. Best Bets: Germany, Harden Ks, Tigers and DBacks.

Yesterday's Notes: Oh the streak carnage! Between the Cubs, Red Sox and Beckett losses the leaderboard was virtually swept clean over the day. Overall a record-low winning PCT at 30.6%, fueled by the Cubs streak killer where 93% of the picks lost. Team USA's Winning Margin of a ridiculous 55-points and the Washington Mystics win salvaged a few streaks but the damage was done. Two-way tie on top the leaderboard at 7, keep on streaking.

Friday- July 25, 2008

Today's Preview: The Russian Premier League starts us off with FC Khimki getting the draw at home vs. Spartak Nalchik. The Cubbies are a fan favorite in this game and are again the big favorite in the afternoon game. The best rivalry in baseball starts off the night with the Yankees at Red Sox matchup, as well as a Beckett vs. Joba in a strikeout prop. Beckett is 3-0 against the Yanks but his strikeouts are not where you might think, so chose accordingly. On ESPN TV at 8:00 p.m ET, Team USA basketball takes on Canada in a pre-Olympic tune-up. Our prop features the U.S. margin of victory against the 2004 U.S. Olympic leading scorer Carmelo Anthony. Best bets: FC Khimki, Cubs, Team USA win margin and BC Lions.

Yesterday's Notes: Interesting day on the admin side of the game with two games pulled off the board. The PGA prop was pulled before the players teed off due to storm that caused a 5-hour rain delay. And the late WNBA game (DET@HOU) was pulled about 20-minutes before the game's tipoff due to the player suspensions announced after the game was made available. We don't expect this to happen very often but if it does the matchups are scored as if it didn't they happen (listed as "Push"), and you're immediately free to make another pick. Portugal beach soccer, San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs check in as the day's big winners. Overall another solid day picking with the overall winning PCT checking in at 79.5%. Congratulations to our first two entries who got their respective streak's into double figures (10), both with nice 3-win days. Only 5 more wins and you're there!

Thursday- July 24, 2008

Today's Preview: Lots of action north of the border today with four props taking place in Canada starting with the PGA's Canadian Open. Early tee time with rising superstar Anthony Kim matched up vs. the Goose for lower round. All the way from Marseille, France the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup makes its steak debut with Portugal vs Uruguay. Portugal is the favorite here but if you've ever played beach soccer, you never know what kind of bounces you'll get on sand. The Swiss Super League has provided us with a new worst team name - the BSC Young Boys - who are slight underdogs at Sion Sitten with the draw. Our first CFL game is on the board with the 6-point favorite Calgary Stampede playing at winless Winnipeg. Summer football just doesn't seem right. And our final matchup of the day north of the border, and a big question mark game, is in Toronto where the MLS All-Stars take on West Ham United of the English Premier League. We expect to see the All-Stars playing hard on the world stage, with the EPL guys more just going through the motions. Best bets: Portugal, Sean O'Hair, Calgary Stampede, MLS All-Stars. It could be a 4-win day for a few streakers good luck!

Yesterday's Notes: Overall the best day percentage wise with entries winning at a .861% clip, but still no streakers into double figures yet. Our current leader bohlec won his Tampa Bay pick then decided to sit on the game-best streak of 8, not getting in on any evening action. Our internal test proved it's tough to get the streak into double figures. Biggest winners of the day go to the TB Rays, U19 Germans, your Boston Red Sox and the Cubbies.

Wednesday- July 23, 2008

Today's Preview: Hump day features a variety of sport matchups that has the potential to be a five-win day. It kicks off with the 2nd leg of an UEFA Champions League qualifying match with Anorthosis (Cyprus) slightly favored vs. Pyunik (Armenia) in the 0-0 aggregate match. In the Under 19 UEFA semifinals look for the favored Germans to get a lot of play vs. the Czech Republic, who are playing on their home pitch. Note now that the U19's are in the semifinals there are no more "or Draws" listed in these matchups. In the afternoon we have an interesting team vs. player MLB prop with all LA Dodgers Home Runs against Matt Holliday total bases. Holliday has been hot lately and seems like the safer play here. In our featured game of the night - Phillies at Mets (7:10PM ET ESPN) - you can play the game straight up (Myers vs. Maine) or go with the prop featuring two of the best shortstops in the game - Jimmy Rollins vs Jose Reyes - for most base hits. Best bets: Germany, Matt Holliday Total Bases, New York Mets. Good luck!

Yesterday's Notes: Streaking ain't easy! Big losers of the night go to the NY Mets and Detroit Shock. The Mets gave blew a 3-run lead in the the ninth and the favored Shock lost at home to LA in a game that ended with an entertaining fight. The Mets loss ended our then leader's streak at 9, while the Shock loss ended two streaks of 8. The Chicago Cubs also ended a few long streaks. Overall a tough day with the combined winning PCT at .467%.

Tuesday- July 22, 2008

Today's Preview: Tuesday starts off with two WNBA matchups. The first features what looks like to be a big mismatch, yet the 3-19 Atlanta Dream are only 4-point underdogs. The lone soccer match for the day comes from the 2nd Leg of UEFA qualifying tournament and favors FC Dinamo Tbilisi -163. Later on tonight with four match-ups to choose from in the 7:00-7:10 p.m. slot, the one that will catch a lot of people is the battle for first place in the NL East, where the Phillies send out their newly acquired pitcher Joe Blanton against the ace of the Mets staff, Johan Santana. To round out the night, there is an intriguing prop matchup where Daisuke Matsuzaka (earned runs) of the Red Sox faces off against Ichiro Suzuki (hits + walks) of the Mariners for the highest total. Ichiro does not normally walk much but he has drawn 2 walks in 14 at-bats versus Daisuke in his career, but Matsuzaka has only given up 1 earned run in last 23.1 innings on the mound, so be careful. Best bets: Sacramento, Dinamo Tbilisi, and NY Mets. A four-win day could be possible.

Yesterday's Notes: A couple of very close finishes with the MLB matchups. First the Oakland A's came back to record their 9th strikeout (with their last out) to force the Streak game's first PUSH. About 15 minutes later the Cardinals tied up their game in the bottom of the 9th but lost in the top of the 10th to end our then current leader's streaks at 7. The day's overall winning PCT an impressive .672 thanks to the Red Sox late-night win (since more than half of the day's picks were riding them). The Red Sox win also extended our current leader's streak to 8, which is more than half way to the magic number of 15 and $4500... keep it going!

Monday- July 21, 2008

Today's Preview: Early AM soccer matchup from Japan's top-league "J" slightly favors the hometeam 'Urawa Red Diamonds Win' -110 over 'Kawasaki Frontale Win or Draw'. At 1PM ET you can play a Danish Superliga match where 'FC Copenhagen Win' checks in as the -200 favorite. Under the lights the Vegas wire says @STL -119, CHC -134 and BOS -134 are the safer plays. No line on the MLB prop for MOST STRIKEOUTS between 'All Oakland pitchers' vs. 'Scott Kazmir' but it seems to slightly favor the A's side. Kazmir has only thrown 30 strikeouts in his last 5 starts and the pitching debacle at the All-Star game makes us think his pitch count could be low. We'll set the line at Oakland Ks -150. Best bets: Urawa Red Diamonds Win, FC Copenhagen Win, All Oakland pitchers. Easy 3-win day.

Yesterday's Notes: Another tough day streaking with the overall win PCT south of .500 again (.442%). The Philadelphia Phillies extra-innings loss earns the biggest loser award and killed a streak of 6. Also Ellsbury + Pedroia does not = love for 94% of those who picked the combo on SNB. Biggest winners go to the Colorado Rockies and NE Revolution, the former which extended our current leader's streak to 7.

Sunday- July 20, 2008

Today's Preview: British Open wake up call gives you a play on either the nationality of Sunday's winner or winning margin. Understand "winning margin" to be the number of strokes between the winner of the tournament and the player who finishes second. Euro books list Padraig Harrington as the favorite so Ireland might be the ticket. Five MLB games on Sunday's docket favoring PHI -150, @CIN -129, @COL -185, @SF -130 and @LAA -108. Three soccer matches on the card slightly favoring Greece, Germany and NE Revolution to earn the W. The one tennis matchup has Dmitry Tursunov as a -140 favorite to win the ATP event in Indianapolis (1PM ET on ESPN2). Best bets: Ireland/Korea/England, Colorado Rockies and NE Revolution.

Yesterday's Notes: Tough day streaking with the overall winning PCT hitting a record-low 38%. Each day this week the overall winning PCT has dropped - .755 Wed., .673 Thr., .572 Fri., and now .383. Streak killer of the day goes to the Chicago Cubs and though the matchup didn't get much play 100% of us who did pick James Blake got the big L. Three-way-tie atop of the leaderboard with a streak of 6.

Saturday- July 19, 2008

Today's Preview: Four early AM props at the British Open where the forecast calls for a 3-club wind, sideways rain and temps only reaching the mid 50s. Featuring some of the world's best players one bad break can lead to a big score but nonetheless we like: Ernie, Phil, Ian and lastly Rocco to better the rejuvenated Shark. Plenty of MLB action on the bill favoring some of the best starters in the bigs: @NYY/Joba -152, BOS/Beckett -118, TOR/Halladay -111, CHC/Zambrano -120 and @ARI/Haren -121. Both semifinal matches from the ATP event in Indianapolis are available to play (Simon -111 and Blake -214). Two MLS matchups - both giving the "Draw" result to the underdog - work out to be around even but do slightly favor @FC Toronto Win -120 and LA Galaxy Win or Draw -125. One WNBA game @HOU -2. Late night chaser features Carl Edwards on his home track vs. the current points leader Clint Bowyer. For the outright win Edwards is the 2nd odds on favorite and Bowyer 3rd and we like the hometown guy. Best bets: Mickelson, NY Yankees, and James Blake. The schedule could shape up for a possible 5-win day go get 'em.

Yesterday's Notes: Tampa Bay Rays big winner of the day being the most selected matchup giving a W to 95% of those who picked them. Biggest loser goes to the Connecticut Sun (who were only 2-point favorites) giving 100% of those who picked them a big L, including the then solo leader's streak of 6. Our new solo leader bbarnes82 - who now has a streak of 6 - continues to pick aggressively, winning twice today with John Daly's +19 and the underdog Phillies. Can the leaderboard get to double figures before the end of the weekend? We don't think so but prove us wrong. Thursday's overall winning PCT was down to a more reasonable 57%.

Friday- July 18, 2008

Today's Preview: We're back on the wet and windy links of Royal Birkdale for the AM props featuring two former American winners who have fell on hard times - John Daly vs. David Duval. This prop is for the HIGHEST 2nd round score, so if you play it note you're pulling for your guy to have a BAD round... bogies are good! Big John carded a 10-over 80 on Thursday to Duval's somewhat impressive 3-over 73 and we think you should look for more of the same here on Friday. Two afternoon matchups to choose from, the first from the ATP tournament in Indy (Haas -200 vs. Simon) and the other from another random Euro soccer match in Austria where Kapfenberg Win or Draw is the slight favorite (53% to 47% chance). The evening rounds out with four MLB matchups, featuring some good pitching matchups all with home favorites: @FLA -113, @TB -139, @ARI -105, @LAA -144. Two WNBA games on the docket - @IND -2, @CHI +2. Best bets: John Daly HIGHER score, Seattle Storm and Los Angeles Angels.

Yesterday's Notes: The NY Mets win at Cincy tops the list of big play winners. Almost half of all the picks in the game on Thursday were riding on the Mets and they delivered making it two days in a row the most picked team came back to win it with a big 9th inning. The win gave 95% of those who played the game the W, including our current leader cmummery who has a streak of 5. Biggest loser of the day goes to the WNBA's LA Sparks where 95% of those who played the game had their streak killed. Interesting to note that the Phoenix Mercury were 2.5 point favorites in Vegas, yet only 5% of the picks went their way. Overall winning PCT for the day was an impressive 67%. If the Mets would've lost their game that number would've been just south of 40%.

Thursday- July 17, 2008

Today's Preview: The day starts off with 4 props from the 1st round of the British Open in jolly old England. With golf props please note a) read them closely to make sure you fully understand what you're picking, b) a DQ or WD is an automatic loss and c) if selected you run the risk of being locked overnight due to bad weather/darkness. The forecast calls for a chilly (mid 60s) drizzle with winds 10-15 and a small chance of lightening so we think they'll play through it. We also think holes OVER par is the safer bet than UNDER par on the quirky par 70 course measuring 7,173 yards. The most selected matchup of the day is the NY Mets (Santana) at Cincinnati (Cueto) game with over 95% of the picks banking on a Metropolitans W. Mix in a couple of lunchtime UEFA U19 matches and a late night WNBA chaser (PHO-2.5) and it could be a 4-win day if your timing and luck are right. Best bets: Geoff Ogilvy holes OVER par, Sergio Garcia (ESP) lower round and New York Mets (-140).

Yesterday's Notes: Records show that overall Wednesday's picks combined for a .755 winning PCT! Not bad for a bunch of Streak rookies and while we don't expect this pace to continue if it does the magic number of 15 will be quickly reached so keep on picking. If you lost your first pick no big deal you have plenty of room to quickly make it up. Many entries can thank the PCL All-Stars 9th-inning comeback and Andrew McCutchen two singles for starting their streak in the wild Triple-A All-Star Game where 9 of the game's 11 runs were scored in the 9th inning. Ireland's own Drogheda United another big winner on the day giving a W to 94% of those who picked them. Only two entries top the leaderboard with a streak of 3, except that number to be at least 5 by EOD tomorrow.

Wednesday- July 16, 2008

Today's Preview: Maybe the single-worst sports day of the year with no major North American sports in action. So what does ESPN do? We roll out the red carpet in Los Angeles and hold the ESPYs! The 16th annual ESPYs is being hosted by Justin Timberlake and you can watch it on Sunday night. In terms of the Streak game we had to reach deep to find some matchups, going across the pond to play three European soccer matches of teams whose names are hard to pronounce. Since both WNBA games have a large favorite we broke them down with individual MOST POINTS matchups between each team's leading scorers. We have two matchups around the Minor League (Triple-A) All-Star Baseball game which takes place in Louisville, KY and is broadcast on ESPN2. Best bets: Dinamo Tbilisi, Drogheda United and PCL All-Stars. It could be a 3-win day.

Yesterday's Notes: One thing Red Sox and Yankee fans can agree on is that the All-Star game is over. 4 hour and 55 minutes later the game finally ended at 1:37am ET, giving 16 entries who picked the AL the win to make a 22-way tie on top of the leaderboard with a streak of 1. Congrats to brakers123 who started the first streak by being the only entry to select that the game's 1st HR would happen after the 3rd inning. Look for a 3 or 4 on top the leaderboard after Wednesday's action is complete.

Tuesday- July 15, 2008

Ok here we go! Below are a few quick bullet points not meant to substitute the Rules or How to Play pages but you should read nonetheless:
  • If you're an Insider as of today you can play and are eligible for the prizes. If you're not an Insider, you'll have to wait until we go live with a new contest starting in mid-to-late August. If you sign up for Insider July 16 or later, you can play the game but are not eligible to win any prize.
  • You can only make one pick at a time... it's NOT a daily pick'em. You can change your pick to another matchup at any time, as long as it hasn't locked yet. When your pick goes FINAL you can pick another matchup, it's as simple as that.
  • There is no limit to the number of picks you can make each day. If you time them right on some days it will be possible to pick 4 matchups.
  • There are two contest in the game 1) first streak of 15 and 2) most wins.
  • There is no limit to how many or few matchups we'll offer each day. Some days we could have up to 20, while others we'll only offer 8.
  • No new matchups for the next day will be added after 11:59pm PT.
  • Each day we're going make matchups available in as many time slots as possible. As such you'll see a lot of random soccer matches. If nothing else it'll fine tune your geography and research skills.
  • You do NOT have to make a pick every day. There is no penalty for sitting on your streak waiting for the right matchup to appear.
  • In our internal testing - which a couple hundred ESPN employees participated in - the longest streak over a one month period was 9 wins in a row. A few 8's, and a lot of 7's, but no one got into double figures.
  • When selecting which team vs. team matchups to offer from the major sports (e.g., MLB, NFL) we'll consider the actual Vegas lines on them. In general we will rarely offer any matchups which have one clear favorite (e.g., 12-point spread), though you might see some here and there so pay attention.
  • Also pay close attention to the way the prop matchups are written. Most will be asked with the HIGHER result winning, but some (e.g., Golf) will give the win to the LOWER side.
  • The game currently does not support groups and is not part of the UBER Challenge game.
  • We'd love to hear your feedback on any and all comments/concerns/suggestions/issues/etc. Please click the "Send us your Feedback" link on the top of any page.

How To Play

1. Predict the winner of ONE of the listed matchups.

2. Once the matchup is final you can select the winner of a matchup that hasn't started yet.

3. Build the longest winning streak each month or the most correct picks each month and win.
